How we source and verify the registry.

Every record originates from an official US Secretary of State business search or bulk-data release. We track per-state source URLs, API availability, captcha and paid-access barriers in our state_sources index, and re-check each source on a rolling cadence.

Names are normalized to support fuzzy matching across legal-name variations. Entity types are mapped to a consistent taxonomy (corporation, LLC, partnership, nonprofit, other). Status is reduced to active, inactive, or unknown, with the original state string preserved alongside.

Cross-state matches link to OpenCorporates where available. We never modify the underlying state record — every detail page links back so you can verify directly with the issuing jurisdiction.
